Back in February, the college received news of a wonderful donation in the making. Three of our alumni in Chicago told our president, Dr. Jon Schwartzbauer, that they would match dollar for dollar up to $15,000 in donations to the college's Health Center Equipment Fund.
This was outstanding news! We immediately started to share it with alumni, employees and Sherman supporters via email and social media. Donations started arriving in the mail and online even as a student and an employee (Mike Spring and Shirlene Burnsed) composed letters to DCs to ask for their support.
Two months later, we have already collected $9,500 toward our goal. How great is that? Sherman employees, alumni and supporters are the best in the world. You are helping us meet the challenge very quickly and for that we are very grateful.
It won't be long before the Chicago alums, Drs. Sam Wang, Gary Roeben and Brian Rutecki (pictured at right), will be pulling out their checkbooks to match our donations.
This is a big deal for a small college like Sherman, mainly because of... the rest of the story. You see, the combined $30,000 raised, added to the money already in the Health Center Equipment Fund, will surpass the magic number needed to "endow" it. As an endowed fund, the original money contributed (the principal) will be preserved forever (yes, forever!) and the earnings will help support equipment purchases of the future. And by the future, I mean forever.
Friends, by giving to this campaign, you will have an impact on the future of Sherman College forever. Your donation will have longevity no matter the size because combined with all the other donations, it will be part of this endowment. It's exciting to think that my donation, along with yours, will last a very long time. I hope you will join me in supporting this campaign. Who knows -- yours could be the donation that takes us over the top!
