No matter where students park at Sherman, you have to walk up hill to get where you are going. So walking up a hill this morning at Sherman was not new or unexpected. This walk was much different however, than any other walk I've taken up that hill. A family member is having some serious health problems and lets just say there is more stress in my personal life right now than could be considered healthy. Days like this, the walk up the hill takes longer.
That extra time is an opportunity. This morning I took that opportunity to try and lift my spirits and I realized that I would probably learn something today that will change someone's life. Maybe it is a practice management idea that will improve me professionally or a critical sign or symptom that might go unnoticed if I didn't get that little extra reinforcement. If I had to guess, I would say the special thing I learned today was an alternate adjusting method for elderly patients. Chiropractically, that is probably the most important thing.
However as I write this, I know that the most important thing I learned today is to find every opportunity to grow, even if it is a painful, long walk.
I'm not a fan of painful long walks myself. However, I find that I end growing tremendously when I go on one. I'm starting to learn not to dread them so much. Sorry to hear about your ailing family member.
