Renovations

Sherman has been a buzz with renovation. Dr. Cordero and the maintenance crew have overseen many renovations to the grounds. The first and most noticeable renovation was the roof/siding of the Scallon building. Sherman has had cedar paneling for at least the past thirty years. It has now been updated to a metal panel to match the other buildings on campus.

The floors in the main building have also been re-done. The old carpet has been replaced with a primarily red, speckled finish.

There has also been an addition of sinks in the bathrooms. The men’s room has an additional three sinks. I cannot speak for the women’s room, but I am sure it mirrors the additions in the men’s room.

They also repaved portions of the parking lots to get rid of some of the more nasty potholes. Still to come are renovations to allow for a tutoring space and additions to our computer lab.

Overall, Sherman is getting a makeover, and I am excited to see what other changes are in store!

 

 

Dr. Cohen

I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Neil Cohen last quarter during an LCW event. I was impressed with his loving personality and desire to meet and listen the students. This past week during our president's assembly, the students were able to listen to Dr. Cohen.

One topic that resonated with me it was as chiropractors we are called to serve for the sake of serving without expecting anything in return. This is not an easy concept. In a "me" driven society, most people always wonder, "how is this going to benefit me?" If we as doctors are so busy focusing on what we are going to receive by seeing patient after patient. Our focus is on the time when the patient checks out and pays our staff instead of being in the room focusing on what I can do to truly help this patient.

Improving lives through chiropractic care. That is the task I have been called to do. If you have been called to the same task come and visit Sherman! I promise you will not find a more passionate school. Welcome Dr. Cohen. I look forward to our time together.

A Weekend in TN

It has been a while since I have visited Melinda’s family in Tennessee. I attempt to go home with her once a month. It gives me an opportunity to have a fun weekend away from studying and also allows for her and Phil to go out on a date.

During our stay in TN, we went to Ober Gatlinburg to enjoy some snow tubing. Ober committed to keeping tubing open until Easter. It was very interesting to be wearing a t-shirt while sliding down a snowy hill. It was the girls’ first time, so it was extra fun for them. We also ice skated. This was ironic because I think Melinda and her family were the only people from the South on the ice. Everyone else was wearing clothing of sports teams from MI, OH, or PA.

 

 

On Sunday, I joined Melinda’s family for Palm Sunday. We waved our palm branches in preparation of Easter Sunday.  

 

 

 

One last funny occurrence happened. The drive to Melinda’s home is about two and a half hours. It never ceases to be an interesting drive. This time, I saw a person reading a book while driving. I was shocked. Also worth noting, during a prior trip I almost hit a black bear. Tennessee is an interesting state to drive through.

Hello Stranger!

It has been awhile since we have talked.  I am writing to update you on my life.  It has been a hectic few weeks. Since I last wrote I have successfully completed 6th quarter, I have taken Part I of National Boards, and spent a week at home for spring break.  My spring break started by spending the weekend with my husband at Chateau Elan, a winery and resort northeast of Atlanta and only 2 hours from Sherman. We had a very nice couples massage followed up by a winery tour and dinner at their onsite pub. I was able to have lunch the next day with my best friend from undergrad as well as my Godson. The rest of my spring break was spent having some quality time with my daughters and doing my taxes.

Now I am back at Sherman and one week into 7th quarter. So what is new in 7th quarter? This is the first quarter since being at Sherman that I do not have one of the heavy hitter classes (no Anatomy with Dr. Wu or Neuroanatomy with Dr. Duke). However, several classes I do have are continuations from last quarter like: Physical Exam II, Lab Diagnosis II, and Ortho-Neuro II.

We are getting to the point where the cumulative nature of the program can be taxing. Classes build on each other and if you don’t learn a concept the first time (or if you just forgot the information) it can be challenging. I highly recommend anyone who is able to be a tutor sign up to be one. It really helps you to solidify concepts in your mind if you have to teach them to someone else, and will help keep the cobwebs off the information you have learned. I wish everyone the best of luck this quarter, and to all the Alumni, I am looking forward to seeing you at Lyceum!
