This has been quite a week. South Carolina and much of the Eastern seaboard has been getting blast with snow and ice. The wind is kicking up this morning as the last of the storms move out. This week has gone from 40s to freezing to 40s again. Now as if thing couldn’t get any weirder, I experienced my first earthquake!
I was unaware that this area was forecasted to have an earthquake. Frankly, I didn’t know that earthquakes ever happened in this part of the country. However, at approximately 10:30 pm South Carolina felt a little rumbling below their feet. I guess where ever there is ground, it can quake (and why not, it was Valentine’s Day).
I live on the third floor of an apartment complex, so I didn’t even realize it was an earthquake. It felt like a heavy-footed resident was banging around for a moment. I could also describe it as having a really big tuning fork under me. The earthquake was a grade 4 or lower by the time it reached Spartanburg, so a noticeable shaking with some rattling were the only real signs of the shifting ground.
Overall, the event was over quickly and I went back to watching TV without giving it another thought. It is just one more thing to add to the uniqueness of this week.
