The weekend is finally here. No exams, assignments, or big to do’s for this week. So now the question is what can I do that is fun and cheap in the Spartanburg area?
As I sit and pounder my options, I decide that maybe a basketball game would be fun. To my surprise there are two games today (USC Upstate and Wofford). Being I know people who attend USC Upstate, I figure why not go and cheer on the Spartans (I found out that not only was it Senior Night but also the Spartans are 3rd in their conference and one of the Spartan players are nominated for the player of the year—which means it should be a great game).
Also, being I am a current Sherman College student I got into the game for $1 by showing my ID. What more can you ask for especially if you enjoy sports like me. You not only get to watch a great game but it is ONLY $1. As the game proceeded, the Spartans were playing with real enthusiasm (with their 2 seniors on the floor). Both teams played hard and it was a very enjoyable game to sit back and watch. The Spartans came out victorious with a win over Stetson 72 to USC Upstate 90. Of course when the team you go to cheer on WINS it makes it so much better
Next, I decided that being I was already on the USC Upstate campus why not go over to the wellness center and play a couple games of racquetball. To my surprise again, (let me tell you all sorts of surprises are showing up) the last Saturday of every month it is free to use their facility.
Usually, the USC Upstate Wellness Center costs $5 dollars for a pass but there is everything you could want or need such as: Basketball courts, racquetball courts, indoor track, exercise equipment, swimming pool, Zumba classes, and that is just a few things they offer. So after I played 3 intense games of racquetball I decided to call it a day and head home.
So with nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon in Spartanburg, I looked and found some great options that were fun and cheap. It only cost me $1 to have a fantastic afternoon filled with enjoyment, exercise, and fun. When you least expect it, you encounter so many wonderful opportunities. Don’t be afraid to get out there and try new things.
