David Serio, D.C., Receives Distinguished Service Award from Sherman College of Chiropractic

Buenos Aires chiropractor David Serio, D.C., has been honored with the Distinguished Service Award from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC, US. The Distinguished Service Award is given to the Sherman graduate who has distinguished himself with service to the community, the profession, and Sherman College.

Sherman College named its 2013 award recipients May 23-25 as part of Lyceum, an annual continuing education and homecoming event attended by hundreds of chiropractors throughout the U.S. and internationally. Lyceum is held on the college’s campus in Spartanburg, SC, and involves three days of seminars, special events and other programs.

Dr. Serio, a native of New Jersey, practices in Argentina, a chiropractically underserved country. When he arrived there, he didn’t speak Spanish and Argentina was in the worst financial crisis of all time. Twelve years later he has distinguished himself by taking the chiropractic message to the people of Buenos Aires, appearing in eight major magazines including People and Newsweek.

He has built a high volume family practice caring for popular Argentine actors, sports stars, politicians, and models as well as many families and children. He is a principal speaker for IFCO International events, and is currently organizing the biggest Latin American Chiropractic seminar for later this year.

“We are thankful for graduates like Dr. David Serio who are true pioneers, committed to providing their communities with outstanding chiropractic care,” said Sherman College President Edwin Cordero, D.C., when he presented the award during the college’s 40th anniversary Lyceum. Dr. Serio was a featured speaker during Lyceum weekend at Sherman.

Daniel Knowles, D.C., Receives Spirit of Sherman College Award from Alma Mater

Boulder chiropractor Daniel Knowles, D.C., has been honored with the Spirit of Sherman College Award from his alma mater, Sherman College of Chiropractic, in Spartanburg, SC. The Spirit of Sherman College Award is presented to the Sherman graduate who exemplifies the true spirit of Sherman College in his/her professional life.

Dr. Knowles is a 1996 Sherman College graduate and a member of the college’s Board of Trustees. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University (1992). Since 1999 he has owned and run a successful private practice in Boulder, Colorado.

Last year, Dr. Knowles initiated the college’s Sherman Connect call program, a leadership resource for students, alumni and supporters of the college. This free, weekly teleconference program features guest speakers who share the philosophy, science and art of chiropractic and its successful application in practice. Dr. Knowles developed the program and remains its leader to this day, continuing to secure guest speakers and host calls.

He is active in the profession, serving as an instructor for Network Spinal Analysis, Wise World Seminars and a member of several professional organizations, including the Colorado Chiropractic Association, the Colorado Chiropractic Wellness Alliance, the International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations, the World Chiropractic Alliance and the Association for Network Care. He is founder of Lifetime Wellness Practice and has served as a mentor and coach for Madeira Success Strategies.

Dr. Knowles has presented at several Sherman College continuing education programs, as well as at Sherman College’s International Research and Philosophy Symposium (IRAPS), On Purpose, New Beginnings, Network Spinal Analysis Certification Level Intensive Trainings and more.

Helen and Gordon Brown, D.C., Honored with Thom and Betty Gelardi Service Award by Sherman College

Helen and Gordon Brown, D.C., formerly of Sedona, AZ, have been honored with the Thom and Betty Gelardi Service Award by Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC.

The Thom and Betty Gelardi Service Award is a high honor presented at the discretion of the president and was last given nearly a decade ago.  This award was created to honor the Gelardis (who founded the college) and recipients who are deemed to have the same qualities as the couple; it is given to recognize unselfish dedication, visionary leadership and pioneering spirit.

Dr. Gordon Brown is a 1942 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic who practiced in Louisville, Kentucky, for two years and in Logansport, Indiana, for 19 years.  He was awarded an International Chiropractors Association (ICA) Fellowship and was instrumental in getting the laws changed in Indiana to allow chiropractors to practice.

Helen McPike Brown, originally from Davenport, Iowa, is a talented artist who comes from a chiropractic family. Helen’s father, Dr. Ray McPike, an enthusiastic, early supporter of Sherman College, was chiropractor. Helen is past president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the International Chiropractors Association (WAICA).

The Browns are the founders of the Future Chiropractors of America and a nationwide back-to-school spinal check program sponsored by WAICA.  Both Gordon and Helen have supported and contributed generously to Sherman College in many ways over the years.  In 1993, they became members of the Board of Regents and continue to contribute yearly. In 1997, they made a generous estate commitment to the Sherman College Endowment Trust.

The Browns donated their home in Sedona, Arizona, to Sherman College in 1999, and funds from the donation were used to construct the Brown House and Museum on campus. The structure serves as an on-campus residence for the Browns, and the lower level houses a museum with the college’s historical chiropractic holdings.  The Browns’ donation is the largest gift in kind in the history of the college. The Browns remain passionate and avid supporters of the college.

Ryan Williams, D.C., Named Rising Star by Sherman College of Chiropractic

Chiropractor Ryan Williams, D.C., was recently named Rising Star by Sherman College of Chiropractic. The Rising Star Award is given to a recent Sherman College graduate who has demonstrated exceptional achievements and service in the community.

A 2009 summa cum laude Sherman College graduate, Dr. Williams opened his first office in 2010 in his hometown of Clinton, SC, and his second office in 2011 in Simpsonville, SC.  Since that time, Dr. Williams has served thousands of people in those communities.  He serves on the board of the Clinton Business Association and is a member of both the Clinton and Simpsonville Chambers of Commerce.

Dr. Williams graduated from the Upper Cervical Academy 2011 and holds several advanced chiropractic certifications.  He is also a member of the Reach Out and Recruit (ROAR) program at Sherman supporting the college through student referrals and prospective student mentoring.

While completing his degree at Sherman, Dr. Williams was president of the Upper Cervical Club and was honored with an Academic Achievement Award.  Prior to attending Sherman College he earned degrees in Civil Engineering and Mathematics. 

Jeffrey Franco, D.C., Named ROAR Career Advisor of the Year by Sherman College

Jeffrey Franco, D.C., of Mandeville, LA, was recently named ROAR Career Advisor of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic in appreciation of his contributions, time and commitment to growing the chiropractic profession.

The ROAR (Reach Out And Recruit) Career Advisor of the Year Award is given to an exceptional ROAR member who has gone above and beyond to recruit students to Sherman College. ROAR asks its doctors to reach beyond their comfort zones and help Sherman recruit future leaders for the profession.

“We are thankful there are chiropractors who do everything they can to advance the chiropractic profession, and we are even more thankful Dr. Jeff Franco is on our team,” said Sherman College President Edwin Cordero, D.C., when he presented the award during the college’s 40^th anniversary Lyceum homecoming event.

Dr. Franco is a 2010 Sherman College graduate whose passion for the college is unwavering. While enrolled at Sherman, Dr. Franco was heavily involved in recruiting new students as a volunteer tour guide, so it’s no surprise that he continued doing so in practice. During the past year, three of his referral students enrolled at Sherman College, and he is well on his way to earning a scholarship in his name to award to his future students at Sherman.

Chiropractor of the Year:  Dr. Shane Walker
Naples, FL, chiropractor Shane Walker, D.C., has been named Chiropractor of the Year, an honor bestowed upon doctors who have, through their service, given extraordinary time and effort to advance Sherman College and the chiropractic profession. Dr. Walker is a 2000 graduate of Sherman College and operates a high volume, family practice in Naples.

He serves as a member of the college’s Board of Trustees and is a member of the college’s elite recruiting team. Dr. Walker also serves as president of the International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations and travels the globe garnering support and building its membership. He contributes much time and energy to advance principled chiropractic.

 

 

Regent of the Year:  Dr. Liam Schubel
Sherman Board member and New Jersey native Liam Schubel, D.C., has been named Regent of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic, an award was presented in recognition of his outstanding and continuous advancement of Sherman College through participation on the college’s Board of Regents. This board is comprised of individuals dedicated to supporting quality chiropractic education through financial donations and leadership. Regents give visibility and stature to Sherman College through speaking engagements, legislative roles, student referrals, and financial support.

Dr. Schübel has actively recruited new members to the Board of Regents for several years and is passionate in his support of Sherman College and its mission. He is co-founder of The Best Mission Trip Ever, which takes chiropractic care to geographically and economically isolated communities of the world. In addition to the multiple chiropractic clinics he has established in Lima, Peru, and elsewhere, Dr. Schübel is executive director of Schubel Vision Communication Seminars and founder of the Peruvian Chiropractic Alliance. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations, is vice chairman of the Sherman College Board of Trustees and is co-author of a book, Cast to be Chiropractors.

Anthony Monnin, D.C., U.C.A, Awarded ROAR Career Advisor of the Year by Sherman College

Anthony Monnin, D.C., U.C.A., of Botkins, OH, was recently named ROAR Career Advisor of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic in appreciation of his contributions, time and commitment to growing the chiropractic profession.

Dr. Monnin is a 2008 graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic and a graduate of the Upper Cervical Academy certified by Sherman College. He has been serving patients at his current Upper Cervical Health Centers of America office location in Botkins since 2009. He is an inaugural member of the college’s elite Reach Out and Recruit (ROAR) Program.

The ROAR/Reach Out And Recruit Career Advisor of the Year award is given to an exceptional ROAR member who has gone above and beyond to recruit students to Sherman College. ROAR asks its doctors to reach beyond their comfort zone and help Sherman recruit future leaders for the profession

He has been active in helping Sherman College build its enrollment, speaking at community and college events and in his office with high school patients.  He mentors students in his chiropractic office and refers students to Sherman College recruiting events.  In addition to talking with patients and future chiropractors about a career in chiropractic, Monnin opened his office to prospective students for a career session.

Donald Epstein, D.C., Honored with Service to the Profession Award from Sherman College of Chiropractic

Chiropractor Donald Epstein, D.C., of Boulder, CO, recently received the Service to the Profession Award from Sherman College of Chiropractic in recognition of his contributions, time and commitment to the chiropractic profession, the public and the college.

Dr. Epstein is a 1977 graduate of New York Chiropractic College. He created two successful wellness practices in New York, where he first began developing his models of health, healing and wellness. In the early 1980s, he began teaching programs, which he now brings internationally to thousands of practitioners each year. His books include The Twelve Stages of Healing, Healing Myths, Healing Magic and The Boomerang Principle.

For the past three decades, Dr. Epstein has been at the forefront of the chiropractic profession and global wellness development. Dr. Epstein is the founder and developer of Network Spinal Analysis and Somato Respiratory Integration, both revolutionary methods of promoting enhanced well-being. He is also the developer of Reorganizational Healing.

His models of wellness, spinal and neural integrity, outcome assessments, and somatic awareness have been studied by numerous universities and have been the subject of several major research projects. Dr. Epstein and Network Spinal Analysis have been featured on television as well as numerous magazines and newspapers around the world. His work has been published extensively in professional journals, and he has presented testimony to the United States White House Commission of Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Jerry Tishman, D.C., Awarded Spirit of Sherman College Award

June 12, 2012

Boca Raton, FL, chiropractor Jerry Tishman, D.C., has received the Spirit of Sherman College Award from his alma mater, Sherman College of Chiropractic. The Spirit of Sherman College Award is presented to the Sherman graduate who exemplifies the true spirit of Sherman College in his/her professional life.

Dr. Tishman graduated in the college’s pioneer class in 1976. He has been an ardent and steady supporter of the college, active in its student recruitment and fund raising campaigns. He has been a member of the Sherman College Alumni Association every year since graduation, attended every homecoming, and has been a member of the college’s Board of Regents continuously since 1978. 

He practiced in Traverse City, MI, from 1976 to 1982 and has been in practice in Boca Raton since 1983.

His leadership in the community and the chiropractic profession is shown by his membership in various organizations, including the Board of Directors of the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce from (1988-1991), the Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania College of Chiropractic from (1988-1995), and a charter member of the Boca Raton Sunrise Rotary Club.

Westfield, NY, chiropractor Alan Ott, D.C., has been named Regent of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic. This award was presented in recognition of Ott’s outstanding and continuous advancement of Sherman College through participation on the college’s Board of Regents. Dr. Ott has been a member of the Board of Regents since 1980 when he met the college’s founder.

This board is comprised of individuals dedicated to supporting quality chiropractic education through their financial donations.
