Schubel Vision Seminars for 2014

Following its inaugural programs in 2013, Schubel Vision Seminars is more enthusiastic than ever to travel the nation and impart excellence in communication skills. The year 2014 will see Schubel Vision Seminars in the following cities:

Schubel Vision Seminars’ vision is to create caring, loving, and inspiring individuals who are crucial to the transformation of this planet. The organization gathers chiropractic speakers whose purpose is to provide the latest strategies for success in chiropractic and maintains an unwavering commitment to assist in the success of every attendee and speaker.

Sherman College Awarded 2014 Military Friendly Schools ® Designation

 

Victory Media has named Sherman College of Chiropractic to the coveted Military Friendly Schools® list, a designation given to the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus. A U.S. Navy veteran, Sherman College President Dr. Edwin Cordero said the Military Friendly Schools® designation has special meaning to him. “Sherman College has a tremendous opportunity to serve and honor our military service members who give so much to our country,” Dr. Cordero said. “We are eager to reach more military members and share with them a health care career that embraces their commitment to serving others. I think it is especially fitting, since Sherman College of Chiropractic holds service to others as a major component of its mission.”

The Military Friendly Schools® media and website (www.militaryfriendlyschools.com) feature the list, interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their needs and preferences. The 1,868 educational institutions on this year’s list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience. These schools have outstanding programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility and other services to those who served.

Now in its fifth year, the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools ® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. The survey results that comprise the 2014 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media. Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.

Mile High Chiropractic Weekend Elevates Chiropractic, Sherman College

Encouraging his fellow chiropractors to “have great practices, be extraordinary practitioners, and impact the world on a greater level,” Daniel Knowles, D.C., has developed an inaugural Mile High Chiropractic Weekend to be held August 16-17, 2013 in Westminster, CO.

“My decision to launch this event was based on the desire to impact more chiropractors to practice and serve the world at greater levels,” Knowles explains. Founded in 2013, Mile High Chiropractic elevates, supports, and grows chiropractors, their teams, and their future colleagues to greater levels of service by strengthening their foundation in the principles of chiropractic.

Proceeds from the chiropractic seminar will benefit Dr. Knowles’ alma mater, Sherman College of Chiropractic. Dr. Knowles recognizes that by holding this event to benefit Sherman College, he can expose more doctors in the profession to the contributions of Sherman College and the outstanding education delivered there. He says the event will also introduce prospective students to the chiropractic college nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Upstate South Carolina.

Dr. Knowles anticipates that the college will benefit from the exposure and gain new supporters and potential students. In addition, he hopes his plans will inspire other Sherman College alumni and supporters to coordinate similar benefit events for the college. Dr. Knowles is a 1996 graduate of Sherman College of Chiropractic and a member of the Board of Trustees. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University (1992). Since 1999 he has owned and run a successful private practice in Boulder.

Presenters at the Mile High Chiropractic Weekend are world-renowned chiropractic leaders and practitioners, including several Sherman College trustees and the college’s new president, Edwin Cordero, D.C. “They are joining us because they are dedicated to uplifting chiropractic and chiropractors in Colorado and surrounding states,” Dr. Knowles says.

Speakers include Drs. Chris Zaino, Dennis Nikitow, Donny Epstein, Steve Visentin, Jason Helfrich, Dan Lemberger, Janice Hughes and Joseph Arvay. The lineup also includes chiropractic patient education expert Bill Esteb and compliance/reimbursement expert Kathy Mills Chang. Samuel Ralls, D.C., Spirit of Sherman College Award from Sherman College

Inman chiropractor Samuel Ralls, D.C., has been honored with the Spirit of Sherman College Award from his alma mater, Sherman College of Chiropractic. The Spirit of Sherman College Award is presented to the Sherman graduate who exemplifies the true spirit of Sherman College in his/her professional life.

Dr. Ralls is a December 2009 Sherman graduate who earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA, in 2006. He is owner of Ralls Family Chiropractic in Inman, South Carolina, which he established in October 2010.

Dr. Ralls was nominated by his peers who praised his passion for chiropractic philosophy, the core of a Sherman graduate. He has sacrificed and made difficult changes in his life and his practice to hold true to his philosophy and passion as a doctor of chiropractic. He has implemented a strong patient and community education program and has had much success making a positive impact on the public perception of chiropractic.

Dr. Ralls remains involved with Sherman College students through a philosophy club, and he is an active member of the college’s Reach Out And Recruit (ROAR) Program, giving of his time to recruit students to the college and help build future leaders for the profession. He volunteers with Boiling Springs First Baptist Church, Upward Youth Sports (basketball) and the Boiling Springs Youth Athletic Association (baseball). He and his wife, Lauren, have four chiropractic kids: Ethan, Isaiah, Lexie and Oliver.

Scott Garber, D.C., Honored with Service to Sherman College Award

Scott Garber, D.C., recently received the Service to Sherman College Award from Sherman College of Chiropractic in appreciation of his contributions, time and commitment to growing the chiropractic profession. The Service to Sherman College Award is given to the individual who has demonstrated extraordinary, unselfish and noteworthy service to Sherman College.

Dr. Garber is a member of the college’s Board of Regents, a group dedicated to supporting quality chiropractic education through financial donations and leadership. One way he demonstrated such leadership was by designating proceeds from a popular chiropractic seminar to benefit Sherman College.

An annual event in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, Dr. Garber’s philosophy gathering has grown in popularity each year that it is held, attracting more than 100 attendees in 2013. Along with a full day of chiropractic philosophy presentations, Dr. Garber arranged for Sherman College to host a career session for prospective students during the program.

Thanks to Dr. Garber’s efforts, the college received funds, as well as secured a number of new supporters and potential students. In addition, Dr. Garber’s event has inspired other college alumni and supporters to coordinate similar fund-raisers for Sherman College.

Dennis Yeung, D.C., Honored with Service to the Profession Award from Sherman College of Chiropractic

Chiropractor Dennis Yeung, D.C., recently received the Service to the Profession Award from Sherman College of Chiropractic in recognition of his contributions, time and commitment to the chiropractic profession, the public and the college.

The Service to the Profession Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary, unselfish and noteworthy service to the chiropractic profession. This year’s recipient is a Sherman College graduate who has made a big impact half-way around the world.

“In a country woefully underrepresented with chiropractors, Dr. Yeung is influencing the public and his fellow chiropractors with a principled chiropractic message that he gained at his alma mater, Sherman College. We are extremely grateful for his work,” said Sherman College President Edwin Cordero, D.C., when he presented the award during the college’s 40th anniversary Lyceum homecoming event.

Dr. Dennis Yeung graduated from Sherman College in 1996, and founded ADIO Family Chiropractic Centre in Hong Kong where he actively educates the public about the negative impact of vertebral subluxations and the importance of a healthy nerve system. He has shared the chiropractic message with government officials, celebrities, parents and children through numerous programs and campaigns.  Through an educational program for children he has taken the chiropractic message to more than 357,000 children, parents and teachers in 158 schools.

Dr. Yeung has distinguished himself as a founder of the Children Chiropractic Foundation, a unique charity which aims to promote chiropractic for children through both education and care, thus giving Hong Kong children the opportunity to enjoy better health and a better life. Dr. Yeung has also rendered his services on mission trips to China. He now has 4 ADIO Centres, where he employs six associates and five staff members and provides free chiropractic care to underprivileged children.

Liam Schübel, D.C., Named Regent of the Year by Sherman College

Sherman Board member and New Jersey native Liam Schübel, D.C., has been named Regent of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic. This award is presented in recognition of his outstanding and continuous advancement of Sherman College through participation on the college’s Board of Regents, a group dedicated to supporting quality chiropractic education through financial donations and leadership.

Regents give visibility and stature to Sherman College through speaking engagements, legislative roles, student referrals, and financial support. Dr. Schübel has actively recruited new members to the Board of Regents for several years and is passionate in his support of Sherman College and its mission.

He is co-founder of The Best Mission Trip Ever, which takes chiropractic care to geographically and economically isolated communities of the world. In addition to the multiple chiropractic clinics he has established in Lima, Peru, and elsewhere, Dr. Schübel is executive director of Schubel Vision Communication Seminars and founder of the Peruvian Chiropractic Alliance.

He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations, is vice chairman of the Sherman College Board of Trustees and is co-author of a book, Cast to be Chiropractors.

Kelvin Ng, D.C., Named ROAR Career Advisor of the Year by Sherman College

Kelvin Ng, D.C., of Singapore was recently named ROAR Career Advisor of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic in appreciation of his contributions, time and commitment to growing the chiropractic profession.

The ROAR (Reach Out And Recruit) Career Advisor of the Year Award is given to an exceptional ROAR member who has gone above and beyond to recruit students to Sherman College. ROAR asks its doctors to reach beyond their comfort zones and help Sherman recruit future leaders for the profession.

“We are thankful there are chiropractors who do everything they can to advance the chiropractic profession, and we are even more thankful Dr. Kelvin Ng is on our team,” said Sherman College President Edwin Cordero, D.C., when he presented the award during the college’s 40th anniversary Lyceum homecoming event.

A 2009 graduate of Sherman College, Dr. Ng established Family Health Chiropractic Clinic in Singapore in 2010 where he also serves as a board member for The Chiropractic Association of Singapore.  He is always on the lookout for ways to encourage students to become future chiropractors. Last year one referred student enrolled at the college and in July 2013, two more will begin their education at Sherman. A career changer himself, Dr. Ng inspires his patients to consider making the same bold career decision he made and is truly sharing the message of chiropractic with his corner of the world.

Roberta Thomas, D.C., Named Layperson of the Year by Sherman College

Spartanburg resident Roberta Thomas has been named Layperson of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic in appreciation of her outstanding contributions, time and commitment to the chiropractic profession and the college. The Layperson of the Year Award is given to a non-chiropractor who has contributed to the advancement of Sherman College in a significant and noteworthy manner.

Thomas holds two positions with the college as executive administrative assistant to the president and assistant to the director of continuing education. Thomas has been an instrumental part of the smooth transition in leadership for both of those offices in 2012-2013. Thomas is originally from California and has also lived in Rhode Island, where she earned an Associate’s degree from Rhode Island Junior College and a Travel and Tourism Certification from Johnson & Wales College.

At Sherman, she has served as executive administrative assistant to the president since 2008 and took on the role as assistant to the director of continuing education in 2011. During her time at the college, she has served in a variety of community and Sherman volunteer positions including United Way team captain and representative, Boiling Springs Museum Committee Chair, representative for the Boiling Springs Area Council at the Chamber of Commerce, chair of the Sherman College Presidential Investiture Committee, and a member of several other college committees.

“The college is indebted to Roberta for her guidance, hard work and tenacity,” Director of Continuing Education Stacy Bradey said. “Roberta’s teamwork and dedication to excellence has greatly assisted us during extremely busy times.”

Shane Walker, D.C., Named Chiropractor of the Year by Sherman College

Naples, FL, chiropractor Shane Walker, D.C., has been named Chiropractor of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic. The Chiropractor of the Year Award is an honor bestowed upon doctors who have, through their service, given extraordinary time and effort to advance Sherman College and the chiropractic profession. Dr. Walker is a 2000 graduate of Sherman College and operates a high volume, family practice in Naples.

Dr. Walker serves as a member of the Sherman College Board of Trustees, bringing energy and commitment to the college’s growth and vitality. He is a member of the elite Reach Out and Recruit (ROAR) program for Sherman College and recently served as keynote speaker for a training session inspiring other doctors to refer students to Sherman.

Dr. Walker not only devotes his time and energy to Sherman College, but he also serves as president of the International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations and travels the globe garnering support and building its membership.
