Under the agreement, students can to take their prerequisite 90 semester hours at Spartanburg Methodist, and then transfer into Sherman College’s doctor of chiropractic degree program after three years. The agreement details can be viewed at http://www.sherman.edu/intranet/ENROLL/articulation-agreements/SMC-SCCcurriculum.pdf or http://www.smcsc.edu/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/SMC-SCCcurriculum.pdf.
“This is a highly attractive option for Spartanburg Methodist College students looking for a cost-effective and timely path to enrollment at Sherman College and to their futures as doctors of chiropractic,” says Sherman Vice President for Enrollment Services Kelley Jones Ashcraft, who worked closely with SMC to develop the program. “It makes perfect sense for SMC and Sherman to align our programs to provide more opportunities for our College Town students.” Chiropractic, Ashcraft says, is an in-demand health care career that allows graduates to bring natural wellness care to their communities while making a difference in the lives of others.
“SMC enrolls many students each year who indicate an interest in various careers in the health sciences, including chiropractic,” says Dr. Colleen Keith, President of Spartanburg Methodist College. “Having an agreement like this one in place with Sherman College makes it so that students can clearly see how they can reach their career goal in a timely fashion and go on to a career that plays a significant role in health promotion, as well as injury and disease prevention. This agreement provides a significant opportunity for our students.”
Under the agreement, Sherman College guarantees admission to students from SMC who meet the following provisions:
- Students must have successfully completed the courses required in the Associate in Science pre-chiropractic curriculum.
- Students must have met the minimum grade requirement of “C” in all required courses.
- Students must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 in the 90 semester hour requirement for admission to Sherman College.
- Students may be granted tentative acceptance upon completion of a minimum of 45 semester hours of credit with full approval granted upon receipt of the final transcript.
Sherman College continually works to establish articulation agreements and pre-chiropractic programs with undergraduate institutions across the nation to facilitate admission to its doctor of chiropractic program.
