Gabe O'Sullivan Pens Book

Seven years ago my heart was breaking for Dr. Gabe and Ryanne O'Sullivan as tragedy struck their lives. I met Gabe in the Toastmasters Club on campus when he was a student, and later I was a patient of his when he joined his father in practice in downtown Spartanburg.

The tragedy was experiencing the death of their newborn triplets who were born premature.

Now with happiness I find that Gabe has written a book about their experience and how their faith got them through this tough time in their lives. It brings me great joy to share the news of his book as reported in the Spartanburg Herald Journal this morning. Williamson Shares The Chiropractic Lifestyle

Chiropractor Brandon Williamson, '08, takes advantage of every opportunity to share the chiropractic message with the community. The Denver resident recently jumped at the chance to write an article for Out Front Colorado, a popular newspaper in the Denver metro area. He wrote The Chiropractic Lifestyle for the Allies section of this publication for the gay community and says he felt he successfully explained the benefits of chiropractic care due to the number of new patients in his practice.

Idaho Alumna featured in CDAPress article

I like to read articles about our alumni in their local press. I enjoy seeing how they explain chiropractic services and what they can offer to their communities. Now that most of this is accessible online, I get to do that quite often.

Club Membership Plan Concept Lands Sherman Alum in the News

Sherman alumnus and Westerly chiropractor Chris Kerszko is getting some attention from the media for his implementation of a concierge fee structure in his practice. His patients have the choice of pay as you go or they can pay a 'club membership' fee for unlimited visits.

Advice for doctors about balancing business with giving

Sherman graduate Marlene Mahipat, D.C., has been recognized yet again for her volunteer work in her Randallstown, MD, community and beyond. In an interview for the The Chiropractic Journal about her volunteer activities she explains her service to the community. And she gives advice for other doctors – particularly new ones – about balancing business with giving. Read the article in Chiropractic Journal.

Mahipat was honored by Sherman College in May with the Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her exemplary service to humanity.

I learned this morning that one of our alumni in Pennsylvania will be on internet-radio to discuss her book called Planet Peace early next week. Planet Peace is a science fiction novel that Rosemary DePasque, '90 published earlier this year.

Rosemary tells me that you can listen in to hear her interview on The Psychic Partners Show on Blog Talk Radio Monday, March 21 at 6:30 - 7:30 pm ET.

 

 

Dr. Mahipat in the news again

I enjoy hearing about the good things alumni are doing in and for their communities. I most recently received a copy of an article about Dr. Marlene Mahipat, a Sherman graduate who practices in Randallstown, MD. I love the observation from the writer who says: "Mahipat pursues charitable endeavors with as much energy and purpose as her career." Wow! Now that's what I'm talking about! What an inspiration Dr. M is to her colleagues in chiropractic and the world at large. Read more about Dr. Marlene's philanthropic endeavors. By the way, Marlene sometimes wears her Sherman College sweatshirts when she delivers Meals on Wheels. We love to hear stuff like that too!

Alumna Katie Houpt Shares Mission Trip Experience

Who is that on the cover of the November 17th Chiropractic Journal? Why, it's our own Katie Houpt, a 2004 graduate of Sherman who took a chiropractic mission trip to Haiti and is sharing her experience with the chiropractic community. Thanks to the Chiropractic Journal for picking up our story about Dr. Houpt which first appeared in our Sherman Shares newsletter.

Bringing chiropractic to the world. That's Sherman's mission. And here is alumna Katie Houpt doing just that...

 

The Chiropractor Actor

Last week the Alumni Office reconnected with an alumnus that we lost track of some time in the last few years. A fellow alum (thanks, Brian!) found him on Facebook and let us know so that we, too, could connect with him again.

We were happy to hear about his life since graduation in March 2000. The graduate, it seems, has been in Los Angeles pursuing another love of his.

Dr. Joe Tichio says, “After graduation I've spent most of my time in California. Several years ago I was cast in a very small part on [TV Show] Crossing Jordan and I had so much fun I wanted to do more. I gradually started to do more acting and less chiropractic for about three years…working in commercials, independent films, improvisation shows, and plays. It was a great time.”

Finding a link to the commercial on his FB page, I shared it with faculty via email and asked them if they recognized a Sherman graduate in the clip. [he he! I overhear Bill Fehl, Tony Duke and Gail Pittman talking about it in the hallway as I write this.] Many responded right away, IDing Tichio and expressing how much fun it was to see it. (hint: Tichio is on the right)

What’s next for Tichio?

“This year I have re-focused myself back to chiropractic. No more agents or auditions, at least for now,” he says.
He added that he is currently working with Time Warner Cable in southern California traveling to up to 15 locations to give chiropractic care to the corporate employees.

“It's a great set up and very non-traditional,” he says about his on site chiropractic services. “I'm rarely in the office,” he concludes.

Sounds like a cool job to me!
