It’s Parents Week at Sherman College. Not really, but it feels like it since I’ve run into two parents on campus so far today. Both are from Michigan by the way, enjoying a spring break of their own, I’m sure!
I met the first parent in the Fitness Center this morning. I was using my morning break to condition for my upcoming climb at Machu Picchu on the Stairmaster. A student and his father were there working out, and I was happy to see that students feel comfortable about bringing guests into the Fitness Center. And happy to meet and chat with the visiting father.
Later in the day another alumnus stopped in my office for a chat. He is in town for a visit with his son and daughter-in-law who is a student at Sherman. I suspect his wife, also a Sherman alum and also (of course) a visiting parent, will drop in later today. She was visiting in another part of the campus.
So that’s why it feels like Parents Week at Sherman. I guess there are plenty of parents from up north who pay a visit to their children at Sherman during spring break. The weather is usually in the mid to upper 70s this time of year and probably comes as a welcome break for those who live in the cooler Mid-West or New England.
Even though the weather is pleasant, last night’s hail storm sure shocked Sparkle City residents and their visitors. As for me, I think those crazy Michiganders brought some cold weather with them last night. ;)
