Dr. Bakian Retires, Will Turn to Volunteer Activities

Sherman alumnus Corey Bakian, D.C., '80, retired from practice recently. Here is a really nice article in The Saline Reporter about him and his plans to volunteer at the children's hospital to sit with and bring comfort to youngsters in the oncology ward. Best wishes to Dr. Bakian in his retirement!

Sherman Yellow Ribbon School News in SJH

I'm on vacation this week, but through the magic of computers I can still tell you that Sherman was in the local newspaper again in an article about us beling one of three Yellow Ribbon colleges in Spartanburg.

Sherman alum to donate service proceeds

Sherman alumna Lidia Adkins, D.C., ’05, plans to  work on June 11 for free, giving the money she receives that day for her services to a 3-year-old girl with cancer. Read the rest of the story here.

Sherman Alumni Authors

The PR Office passed this on to me last week: Jones author releases new juvenile fiction. It’s an article about the release of a book authored by Sherman graduate Aaron Fisher, D.C. ’07. The book is about unfailing friendship between two boys who meet at school and a tragic turn of events. Read more about the book here.

I also saw on Facebook today news of the impending release (July 4) of Promises by another Sherman alum, Mary Helen Hensley, D.C., ’98. This is a memoir and Mary Helen tells me there are some good stories from and about her days at Sherman. Rut roh!

I'm delighted to add the names of these two alumni to my growing list of Sherman Alumni Authors and hope to include actual copies of their books in our Alumni Author Book display during Lyceum next year.

Sherman College is a Yellow Ribbon School

Sherman College is a Yellow Ribbon School. What does that mean? It means that it has agreed to honor veterans who served our country after September 10, 2001 according to the specifications of the 9/11 GE Bill with tuition assistance. Schools voluntarily sign on for this education enhancement program and agree to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate.  The school can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution. 

Sherman is one of the first chiropractic colleges to sign on for this program. If you know of veterans looking to pursue chiropractic as a career please refer them to Sherman College for more information about this program.
