Sherman Alumnus Featured on Helium.com

Alumnus Roger D. Smith, ’00, in California was recently featured in an article about the benefits of upper cervical chiropractic care. The article appears on the Helium.com Alternative Health Channel. I was written by Luanne Hunt, an established freelance health and entertainment journalist whose health and entertainment articles have appeared weekly in the Los Angeles Daily News, Pasadena Star-News, San Gabriel Valley Tribune and Long Beach Press-Telegram. Relief from Heat Fun Day Coverage in Newspaper

Last night it hit me that I included a link to the Dee Cee Gees skit performance in yesterday's entry but failed to say who those crazy guys were. It was President Jon Schwartzbauer (carrying the spine), VP for Academics Bob Irwin (in the middle) and Dean of Clinical Sciences Joe Donofrio (flipping the charts).

Sherman College Fun Day

A thunderstorm has sent us all back inside. It’s really coming down out there. I can hear the rain pelting the roof as I type.

Recent alumni will remember Fun Day as an afternoon of silly game competitions (pickle eating contest) and a dunking booth out on the soccer field. Older alumni who haven’t been to campus lately will think, “We have a soccer field?” Yes. It was put in when they graded the land for the Olsen Building and it’s even used by local child soccer teams as a practice field.

But I do digress. Back to Fun Day… It started with an assembly where a pinning ceremony for the students reaching intern status was performed by Drs. Seay, Clusserath and Irwin. Then the new Summer Class was introduced. Traditionally, this happens at a Bagelfest assembly and the new class composes and performs a song. This group did a great job and was very entertaining.

And then came a real treat! A surprise appearance by the Dee Cee Gees. (You’ll get it when you watch the video).  Watch the video now.

So alumni, it’s still the same old Sherman here in Sparkle city. Same types of events and fun times, different cast of characters. We even saw the Spizz student newspaper reborn and hot of the press today. Check out some of the other Sherman bloggers and get to know some of our current students and get a better feel for what’s happening at Sherman.

Concrete Lion Mascot Appears on Campus

As you may recall, we've had a change of mascot here at Sherman College. At our Memorial Day weekend Lyceum homecoming event the new mascot was introduced to the college community by cool magician Justin Kredible. See my post from May 29.

Well, a couple of weeks ago a concrete lion appeared outside the Scallon Building on the edge of one of the wall of the new ampitheater. Everyone claims not to know how it got there.

Then it appeared in the courtyard on the other side of the building at the point of the top arrow in the brick representation of our college logo.  It stayed there long enough to get doused by the water sprinkler a few times when they watered the garden back there. Now it's gone from there. Where will it appear next?

 

Sherman Raptor Celebrates Independence Day

It's true! Someone at the Science Center is dressing the raptor for the holidays! We went to the Chapman Cultural Center today to see for ourselves and there he was, ready to celebrate the 4th of July decked out in red, white and blue.  Take a look... I love the bow tie.

Pumped for Success

Positively in the news recently is alumna Nikki Bieber, ’02, of Turbotville, PA, who has transformed herself into a body builder with pro status while maintaining a practice and raising three children with her husband, Andy, also a Sherman graduate (‘00). Andy, who couldn’t be more proud of Nikki, sent me the link to this article. All I can say is, “Wow!” Read more about Nikki.
