Each year the Sherman College Alumni Association awards 6 scholarships to Sherman College students. One or two scholarships are awarded quarterly based on financial need and demonstration of outstanding leadership qualities.
Last week, Alumni Association treasurer, Dr. Claudia Seay presented a $500 scholarship award to Colleen Compel, a second year student from North Carolina.
The scholarship recipients are announced at Bagelfest, the college's quarterly welcome party to introduce the new incoming class of students to the college community.
Bagelfest is a great Sherman tradition. As you might have guessed, bagels are served as well as juice, coffee and donuts. In addition to being introduced in front of the assembly, the incoming class, as a group, performs a song they have prepared ahead of time. Usually it is a well-known tune with words some creative person in the class penned to tie it into Sherman College and chiropractic. Bagelfest is a great social event that students and employees alike enjoy.
