The Intern of the month program was created to recognize interns that perform skillfully and at a high level in the clinic. Typically, the intern of the month is a member of the XRI (X-ray intern) or ACE (Academy of Chiropractic Excellence) program. Notable exceptions are Brandon Tester and Micah Dunn. That intern's photo is posted in the classroom building and in the health center lobby for 1 month. There is also a gallery of all the past IOM for the past 12 months. It is something I have striven for but continued to miss.
On a normal Friday afternoon I see my family in the HC. I check spines and my nephew plays with cars and flirts with the girls. A few weeks ago was no different and as I waved to my family as the walked out the door. I stopped to check my mailbox one last time before heading out for the weekend. I found a letter that stated:
Dear Sem,
Congratulations on being selected Intern of the Month for the month of April 2011!
You were selected among several fine candidates. You were chosen not only for your high number of visits, but also for the great service you give, your ability to make sound adjusting decisions, and for your patient management skills (education, retention, new patients, etc.) I especially appreciate the professional example you give to your fellow interns.
Congratulations! You deserve it. Please keep up the great work.
Sincerely,
Dr. Claudia E. Seay, DC
Dean of Clinics
I ran back down stairs and called to my family. Thankfully, they had not left and we were able to share the joyful news. I am honored and thankful for the recognition. I could not have done it without the love and support of a great family. That great family isn't just my loving mom and flirty nephew, but the family at Sherman. From our smiling mom Kathy Wilson to our biker uncle Dr. Bob Irwin, Sherman's family environment is the foundation for success in chiropractic. I wouldn't want to be IOM anywhere else.
