Pinning Ceremony

At each Bagelfest every quarter, we have a Pinning Ceremony for the students who are preparing to enter the clinical portion of their chiropractic education.  They are announced in front of the student body, and officially earn their pin, or nametag, that is worn when working in the Health Center and caring for their patients.

This Bagelfest, I had a front row seat, so I videotaped a portion of the ceremony.  What an exciting day for our new chiropractic interns!

Meet Mattie....

Hi my name is Mallt Bendall…. AKA Mattie Bendall (I adopted this name when I came to the USA). “Thank goodness”, I hear you say….. yes,  it is a bit of a tongue twister!!

I am originally from Wales, but have been state side for nearly 8 years now. I spent five years living in Florida and three here in South Carolina and at Sherman College. I live here with my husband Tony (he’s from the UK too) and our two cats, Cookie and Bella.

I can honestly say this is the best place I have ever worked. We have a great group of people at Sherman.  All of the staff, faculty and administration are like my extended family, and believe me, when you are so far away from your own family, this support is certainly appreciated.

My new position at Sherman is Coordinator of New Student Recruitment, and that basically means I will not be traveling as much as I did as a recruiter, but I will still have the pleasure of visiting many colleges and universities in North and South Carolina.  I love meeting and talking to prospective students about chiropractic and the program we offer here at Sherman College.  I am here to help any student who needs help and guidance with any aspect of coming to the college and achieving the dream of helping people lead healthier and more fulfilling lives. Email me at mbendall@sherman.edu. I will glad to help you!

Dinkins_lanette_web_2 My name is Lanette Dinkins, an admission representative.  I am a native of Elliott, South Carolina, a small rural town located one hour and fifty eight minutes on the outskirts of Myrtle Beach.  I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina and a Master of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, North Carolina.  I relocated to the Upstate area from Charlotte, North Carolina after getting married.  I love painting, coaching, watching football, playing basketball, and golf.

I started here at Sherman September 2005.  The best part of Sherman College is getting to know the students, giving campus tours, and traveling to represent the college.  When I am not traveling students come by and visit me in the admission office.  Please don’t hesitate to stop by the admission office I am more than happy to speak with you.  In case I am not there leave me a message or email me at ldinkins@sherman.edu.

Meet Kathy.....

Wilson_kathy_web My name is Kathy Wilson and I am Director of Financial Aid. I am a native of Spartanburg and received an Associate Degree in Business Accounting from Spartanburg Technical College.  I have been married for almost 22 years.  I have two stepsons and 4 grandchildren with another one on the way.  When I am away from work, I enjoy spending time with my family and attending my grandsons’ ball games.  My stress releases are my gardening, yard work and fishing.  I enjoy planting flowers and going fishing when I have time.

I came to Sherman College in 2004 and found a home.  The best part of Sherman College is the small family atmosphere.  I look forward to coming to work in the mornings.  I really enjoy getting to know the students and consider them my extended family.  Please feel free to come by Financial Aid and speak with myself or my assistant Diane Blackwell.  Either of us will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.   You may email me at kwilson@sherman.edu

Meet Alison....

Alison Hi everyone,
My name is Alison Kimball and I am in my 4th year here at Sherman College working as the Admission Office Coordinator.  My job affords me the opportunity to meet lots of prospective students, keep their files in order and work with the wonderful admission staff here on our campus.  I also have the best view of the outside world through the glass enclosed atrium!  I am a hometown gal who, in her youth, traveled extensively throughout the United States and in Europe.  I now make my home in Boiling Springs with my menagerie, including a Siberian husky named Chloe, three cats ~ Bula, Toby & Lucy and a tank of tropical fish.

I love the outdoors, alpine skiing, camping and bluegrass music.  Vacations are always fun … and this year for my “big” birthday, I am giving myself a cruise to Alaska in June!

Meet Kristy....

Shepherd_kristy_web_3 Hi, my name is Kristy Shepherd and I am the new Admission Counselor!  Lisa asked me to tell you all a few things about myself and my thoughts on Sherman so far.  So here’s the scoop…
I grew up in Spartanburg and graduated with a BS in Biology from Winthrop University.  I went to work at Abby’s Grill in downtown Spartanburg where I met my husband, Frank.  We have a daughter, Grace, who is almost 2 years old.  I am in a book club, The R & R Literary Society, which sounds stuffy but we tend to get a little rowdy when we get together and sometimes we don’t talk about the book all that much!  When I have time I also enjoy scrapbooking and working in my yard.

I am definitely enjoying my time at Sherman.  It seems like a close knit community and I look forward to getting involved!   I am looking forward to sitting in on some classes and getting to know the students as well.  Come by and say hello if you are in the Admission Dept, or send me an email at kshepherd@sherman.edu
