This is one of the weirdest school experiences I have ever had. My class (currently still 13th quarter) just went through one of the largest whirlwinds in chiropractic education. This quarter we conquered Exit exams, Part IV Boards and its review, attended Lyceum (which, by the way, closes down the clinic...which keeps us from obtaining patient numbers or clinic hours), and still managed to scrape up the 240 clinic hours. This has been one of the most stressful seasons in my educational career. That's right, I said career. And even though we were stressed to the max, we felt little of it. We were on Intern/Graduate student auto-pilot.
I think the shock of it all hit me when we returned from Iowa. A majority of the Sherman Part IV crew took this particular board in Davenport, Iowa. And to finish all the reviews associated with Part IV, we spent 10 days in Iowa. So much for a vacation this year! What a crazy trip...what a big investment...what a stressful exam! Now that we are back and left with very few hurdles as a DC student, life is quiet. But do not be fooled, this quietness is preparing us for the storm. We are about to embark into the world as doctors, and I can't help but take a big gulp at the thought.
The good news is that I do have respite. I can rest in my savior, Jesus Christ, to lead me in His will. I can also rest in the education I received from Sherman. While in Davenport, I was amazed at our advancement in clinical application and technique. I think our students were head and shoulders above the rest. I am impressed with what we have learned, and how efficient we are at performing what is required of us. I think any student weighing their school options needs to think seriously about Sherman. Mind you, those other schools may have fancier atmospheres and "things" to offer. But when you are left with a house payment every month, you want to know your money was well spent on chiropractic...THE REASON YOU WENT TO DOCTOR OF CHIROPRACTIC SCHOOL. Don't get me wrong; having a Starbucks on campus is nice. However, that coffee cart will not offer you jack squat in the development of your skill and your ability to get sick people well.
Thank you, Sherman, for sticking to your guns! Students will always gripe about something, but I am happy that I received a chiropractic education in a system that's slowly losing its identity. Praise God for the truth that we possess!
Now back to the clinic grind...
Jaime, we are SO proud of you. Can't believe you are graduating already. Congrats! Teary blog post coming soon in your honor. :)
