Here are a few numbers everyone needs to know and understand: 5%, 75%, and 37th.
Let’s break them down:
5%- the United States totals about 5% of the world’s population. 75%-the United States consumes 75% of all prescription drugs made in the world. 37th- The US ranks 37th in overall health based on the latest World Health Organization’s assessment of all countries.
So if the US is consuming most of the medicine, then why aren’t we getting any better? Why has our World Health Organization ranking receded from 36thto 37th? These numbers state a distinct take on health, one we are going to call sickness management. While excellent medical care is available for critical situations and acute trauma, these cases represent a small portion of today’s health care problems. Many people live with chronic conditions that have progressed for years despite traditional health care. Today we are maintaining health problems with lots of medications and focusing on symptoms, while constantly looking for a cure. While there is nothing wrong with looking for a cure, what if we switched our thought process and focused on the CAUSE of health problems? What would those numbers look like? What would health care look like? And how do we look for a cause?
Causes
Some of the causes of diminishing health can result from poor diet/nutrition, lack of consistent quality sleep, lack of exercise, & what we call in upper cervical work as lack of brain/body communication.
Brain and Body Communication
The brain and body communication is based on the connection between the brain and body, known as the brain stem. The brain stem is the control center for your entire nervous system. So what’s so important about your nervous system? The nervous system is responsible for ALL communication within the body. It controls your immune system, emotions, vision, hearing, balance, breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, muscle tension, posture, hormones, and every other function. So we definitely would consider the nervous system of vital importance.
How can you keep brain and body communication open and clear? Simple…upper cervical care.
Upper Cervical Care
The general concept behind upper cervical care is based on the Universal Law of Cause and Effect. For every effect-symptoms of mental and physical ailments-there must be a cause. An upper cervical doctor focuses his or her efforts on locating and correcting the cause of your health condition, allowing the body to heal itself naturally without the use of potentially harmful drugs or surgery.
Upper cervical care is a rapidly growing form of chiropractic that focuses on the intimate relationship between the first two bones in the neck, called the upper cervical spine, and a vital portion of the nervous system, known as the brain stem. The upper cervical area is especially vulnerable to injury or misalignment because they are the most mobile segments of the spine. Misalignment here can produce nerve irritation to the brain stem which, in turn, can affect nearly all vital functions and systems in the body. This interference at the brain stem is called subluxation. If neglected, an upper cervical subluxation can lead to irreversible spinal degeneration, chronic ill health, and a shorter life expectancy.
How do you get an upper cervical subluxation?Subluxations can be caused by falls, auto accidents, sports, on-the-job injuries, concussions, physical or emotional stress, poor posture, and even trauma of the birth process.
How does an upper cervical doctor detect subluxations? An upper cervical doctor begins with information about your current and past lifestyle, spinal exam, thermography, and specialized three dimensional x-rays that allow the doctor to see the exact misalignment in the upper cervical region. Upper cervical corrections are low force, and require no forceful pulling, twisting, or jerking motion of the neck. Even though an upper cervical doctor only focuses on the top two bones in the spine, upper cervical corrections can affect the rest of the spine. It’s surprising the problems upper cervical subluxations can cause.
Who benefits from upper cervical care? Everyone! Infants to seniors, mothers-to-be, athletes, and accident victims will benefit from a healthy spine and nervous system.
Upper cervical subluxations can be asymptomatic, so do not wait till you have symptoms. Get your spine checked today!
