I think a question a lot of incoming students ponder is: do you have to do a board review to pass boards? And my answer is...NO! There are plenty of students who do just fine on boards, while saving lots of money by studying completely solo.
However, for this student, board reviews are a must! My life is rather chaotic, busy at best. Living roughly 35 minutes from school, having a husband and three-year-old daughter, being a youth leader in our church, and trying to fit school life around it all can leave study time low on the priority list. So for someone who doesn't have the time to look through oodles and oodles of notes, board reviews are my saving grace. Plus, I also have to really chew on information before it sinks in. I am one of those people who must understand the whys and the hows before I get it. Board reviews focus your attention, and repeats information till you hear it in your sleep.
For me, I have used Dr. Irene Gold's Board Review for every board thus far. I have been pleased with the reviews, and my board scores have been above average. The money for reviews has never been a deterrent to me. I think money versus quality of life should be taken into account. My quality of life is good and my stress levels minimal during boards, because I can rest assured in my training from Irene.
So if you were wondering if you want to participate in a board review, examine what kind of time you have and how you like to study. Don't let people tell you don't need one or that you have to have one. Each person is different, and needs to make his/her own decision. Regardless of your choice, you must study!!
Well, off to Atlanta I go...to take Irene's Part III Review!
