About Jaclyn

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Though she claims to have been born with a tennis racket in her hand, Kentucky native Jaclyn Leeper realized during undergraduate study that she wanted to use her hands for a different purpose – chiropractic. Growing up in a chiropractic family (her grandfather, uncle and two cousins are D.C.s), Jaclyn figured there was room for one more. In what she calls “the most spontaneous decision I’ve ever made,” Jaclyn abandoned her elementary education major at Murray State University and began prerequisite studies for chiropractic. Ironically, she says, it’s probably one of the best decisions she’s ever made. To find out more about Jaclyn, click on the photo above.

My Favorite Faculty Member

Johnson_stephanieThis month, it was suggested that we blog about our favorite faculty member here at Sherman College. I have found this very difficult to do, which is part of the reason it is coming so late in the month. The thing that makes this so hard is the simple fact that we have such a great group of faculty members here. This makes it very difficult to choose just one absolute favorite. I guess if I really had to choose, I would say that one of my favorite faculty members here at Sherman is Dr. Stephanie Johnson. Dr. Johnson not only teaches a couple of the clinic related classes that we have as we progress through our education, but she is also one of the doctors working on the floor of the Health Center to help us improve our skills and take care of our patients in the best way possible. This is where I have found Dr. Johnson to be absolutely outstanding. She has been the case doctor for a couple of my patients in the Health Center and the experience has been extremely valuable for me. There have been a couple of times thus far when I feel that I have been very lucky to have her there to help me out. I am still only a student and do not have the necessary experience to deal with every situation and case that comes my way completely on my own. Dr. Johnson has been very patient with me all along the way. Her office door is always open and she never seems to be bothered by any question I have whether I am on the Health Center floor or wandering into her office at some random point throughout the day. I have found Dr. Johnson to be someone with whom I am very comfortable going to with any question or concern I might have which is extremely important, especially now that I am working one on one with patients. Thank you Dr. Johnson for all that you do!!!

Visit to Hotlanta

This past weekend, once Lyceum was over and done with, I decided to enjoy the remainder of my Memorial Day weekend.  On Sunday morning, I got up early and headed to Atlanta, Georgia to spend a day of fun in the sun.  Altanta is just about a three hour drive from Spartanburg, give or take depending on traffic, so my boyfriend and I decided to leave early to make sure we had plenty of time to do everything we wanted to do in the course of one day.  Our first stop: the Georgia Aquarium.  I had heard so many things about this that I was determined to see it for myself before I was finished with school in Spartanburg and so closeby.  I have to say, it was pretty cool.  My favorite part of the aquarium was definitely the Beluga whales that they have there, as well as the whale sharks.  It was a very neat experience and something I would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Below are some of the pictures we took at the aquarium. Img_1468 Img_1477 Img_1497 Img_1502 Img_1513 Img_1523 Img_1531 Img_1533 Img_1545

After finishing at the aquarium, we decided to head the zoo.  Zoo Atlanta is one of the only zoos in the country that houses Panda bears.  This alone, was very exciting.  They have three Pandas there including one that is fairly small and only a couple of years old.  They also have several orangutans including a baby.  He was quite active and entertaing while we were there.  The silver back gorillas were also pretty impressive.  Other than that, it was pretty much your typical zoo but we had a wonderful time nonetheless.

Once the zoo experience was over, we headed to Six Flags over Georgia.  I have been here a couple of times in the past but am a real sucker for amusement parks.  It had been several years since I had gotten to visit the park so I had to go.  It was a beautiful day and turned out to be a perfect day to be at Six Flags.  I actually got a Season Pass while I was there because it turned out to be cheaper for two people if we bought one Season Pass instead of two tickets.  With the Season Pass, I could bring a friend for free which is exactly what I did.  Now, I can go back for free if the opportunity presents itself within the next several months.  We also got to ride just about everything we wanted to.  We rode just about all of the big rides, except for maybe two or three, and never had to wait in line more than an hour.  Most of the rides had a wait of thirty minutes or less.

Below are some pictures that we took throughout the day at the zoo.  There aren't any pictures from Six Flags because I opted not to take my camera in, just in case.  There is always the chance of it getting wet or falling out of a pocket on one of the wilder rides.  A chance I just wasn't willing to take.

Lyceum is Underway!!!

Today marks the official beginning of this year's Lyceum, Sherman's annual homecoming. The weather is absolutely beautiful for the big event as well. Yesterday, the final preparations were completed. The beautification of the campus finished up just in the nick of time too. Everything looks great!!! Those returning from Lyceum last year (or anyone who hasn't been to the school in the past month or so) were in for a big surprise when they arrived. The campus of Sherman College looks completely different. The makeover that the campus received was definitely well worth the effort and time put into it. Hopefully, Lyceum will have the same result. Many people have volunteered a great deal of their time planning and preparing for this event to make it the best Lyceum yet. I am sure their hard work will pay off. There are many great lectures and seminars planned as well as fun events for everyone. I hope everyone has a great time this year. It looks like the weather may just play right into our hands as well, at least for the most part.

Office Equipment for Sale

About a month ago, Dr. Cecil H. O'Dell, Jr., a local chiropractor, contacted me to let me know that he is selling the equipment from his complete chiropractic office. I spoke to several people about this but wanted to let anyone who hasn't heard about this know that he has all of his equipment for sale at a reasonable price. He has everything you would need to open a new office including adjusting tables, office chairs, desks, lamps, chiropractic pictures, charts, posters, exam sheets, chiropractic forms, exam equipment, and more. He says that everything is in great condition. For anyone about to graduate or simply trying to prepare early for opening practice, a little bit at a time, this is a great opportunity. If you are interested and would like to contact Dr. O'Dell his contact information is:

e-mail: doc45us@yahoo.com phone: 864-993-2583

His office is located in Greenwood, South Carolina which is about a 45 minute drive from Spartanburg. It sounds like a great offer and is definitely something to consider taking advantage of it at all possible!
