Virginia is for Chiropractors

I was so excited that Susan and Baron Newlin took me with them to Virginia. We visited six Sherman alums from Restin to Virginia Beach. First stop was Restin to see Andrea Marconi. She has mostly a pre and post natal practice and just loves what she is doing. Oh, and what a smile on her face when she talks about her practice.

Next stop was Stafford to see Sean Stewart and Nylsa Correa. I got a great upper cervical adjustment from Sean and we signed him up for the ROAR program

I felt really at home in Nylsa's children's adjusting room. It was like I was back home in the jungle!

From Stafford we took the King's Hwy to King George to see Shawn Pallotti. His practice has grown so big he is relocating to a new office. Susan got adjusted before he had to leave to take care of a soccer team.

On to Newport News to see Renata Kowal at Atlas Chiropractic. Busy, busy practice! I got to meet a prospective student who is planning to come to Sherman

 
Last but not least we spent some time with Jon Parmiter at Virginia Beach Sports Chiropractic. Jon is so passionate about taking care of athletes. He has signed Jersey's hanging throughout the office representing teams he has cared for. He wants to come back to Sherman to talk to the student's. I look forward to seeing him again.

Flat Larry Goes to the Indy 500

After an exciting week at Lyceum, Flat Larry raced off to the Indianapolis 500 with staff member Roberta Thomas who is the executive administrative assistant to President Jon Schwartzbauer.

Arrived in the town of Richmond, KY at 10:30 pm.  Next trip (at a more reasonable time of the day) will include a visit with Sherman alumnus, Dr. Steven Dotson (' 09) who manages a ChiroOne clinic in Winchester, KY, just 12 miles east of Lexington

Keeping with his carnivorous roots, Flat Larry dined at the Casino buffet and then hit the tables... flat pockets (no winnings) remain on Flat Larry.

Larry found that Indiana was just as hot and humid as SC, so he took a refreshing break at the Flowing Well in Carmel, IN, before heading home.

Citizens visit the continuous flow of water to fill containers with clean, filtered water.

 


  

Nat and Timo's great adventure

Hi! It's me again. Flat Larry. I'm the Sherman College mascot who was flattened in an unfortunate accident back in May. Since then I've been traveling the world with Sherman College alumni and friends. Today I want to show you the photos from my cross country trip with Natalie Kurylo and Tim O'Donnell from Knoxville, TN. We left South Carolina and drove to Texas for Timo's nephew's graduation. Whew! that was a long ride!

Back in Tennessee Natalie and Timo took me with them to Bonnaroo, a 4-day Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, TN. That was fun! We attended Lebowski Fest and saw "The Big Lebowski." I also saw Bruce Springsteen perform, but it was too dark to get good photos.

You never know where you'll end up when you're flat and easy to carry!

 

Reading Straight From Sherman

I've been hanging out on campus lately. Today I'm sitting in the sunny atrium, which is the main entrance to the Scallon Building on campus, reading the most recent issue of Straight From Sherman. Wow! There are lots of alumni featured in this issue. There's Evan Cohen and Dale Friar, and that Natasha woman with the long last name I can't pronouce! I'll have to suggest to Director of Alumni Relations Marggi Roldan to add those stories to the Alumni Profile pages of the website.

Hey, if you didn't receive this issue, maybe Sherman College doesn't have a current address for you. Send Marggi an email with your mailing address!

I've also been reflecting on all my travels during the past 7 months. I know there is a trip to Texas that I still want to tell you about. I'll have to go look for those photos... See you soon!

Myrtle Beach with the kiddos

I liked the beach so much when I visited with Alison that I decided to tag along when Karen Rhodes, director of public relations, headed to Myrtle Beach with her family and friends for a long weekend. It was quite a crowd -- Karen, her husband Zach, their 3-year-old daughter Laney, their good friends Aubrey and Curtis, plus Laney's buddy, Claire -- and they definitely kept me entertained, especially Laney and Claire!

After the girls went in the water (I didn't want to get too wet!) and had a snack, they finally took me out to play.

After all that fun at the beach, I was pretty worn out, so I spent the rest of the long weekend relaxing. I'm glad they brought me along. The ride to Myrtle Beach wasn't too bad, either -- it's just about 4-1/2 hours from Spartanburg, so it's an easy weekend trip! Wonder if they'll take me back next year?

Huntington Beach Trip - Alison Kimball

Lucky me ~ I got to spend a week this summer at the beach with my friend Alison Kimball, Sherman College Admissions Office Coordinator.  It was a little hot, and my mane got frizzy & wild looking, but that’s a good thing. 

We stayed in her camper at the state park campground near Murrell’s Inlet, SC.  As you can see, I also had a very nice bed with a chiro pillow to help keep me aligned while I rested. 

When we were at the beach one day, it was really windy and I was blown away ~ really!  A big log stopped me, but as you can see, I landed rather awkwardly, and I sure needed to find one of our Sherman grads down there to adjust me back to my normal flat-shaped self!

Huntington Beach was beautiful, and I am proud to say that I am one of its friends!  I hope to return next summer.  Maybe next time we can go visit the alligators on the causeway. They'd better watch out!

Ralf Took Me All Over Europe

This may have been my biggest adventure so far. Dr. Ralf Ridderhall and his lovely wife, Carin, took me back home to the Netherlands with them and then on several trips spanning many weeks. Wow! What a life!

Here I am with Emma (one practice member in Dr. Ralf's practice) taken outside the practice here in Venray, The Netherlands.

Here I am going in an old fashioned wood burning sauna in Jämtön which is in on the coast of the very northeastern Sweden. I was with Ralf at the end of June to visit his cousins, aunt (which is also his godmother), and uncles. One of his cousins has a log house up there.

“Google” Jämtön and you will get a map so you can see where it is located.

 

Now here I am catching my breath outside on the little porch after the hot sauna, and enjoying the beautiful view.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Ralf took me to Barcelona when he travelled there for the ICPA seminar. Notice the big “Gold Fish” in the background. That was the Casino in Barcelona.

Isn't this pretty? It shows Carin and I on a 947 meter peak with a beautiful view of Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lake) on the same island. Lagoa do Fogo is a crater lake on the center of the island Sao Miguel, Azores.

Here I am with Dr. Ralf again. This photo was taken just outside the village of Furnas (Sao Miguel island) where the hot springs are located. Carin didn't like the sulphur smell.

Dr. Ridderhall says: "We have had a great time with Larry and if he would have stayed with us another month he would have been able to go to Mallorca (Spain) too, but he is very homesick and he misses the big steaks…."

I'm on my way back home to Sherman College.

I Visited Dr. Chris Hawkins in Michigan

Hi everyone! I recently visited the chiropractic office of Dr. Chris Hawkins in Rockford, Michigan. What a nice office he has!

Look at the great children's checking and adjusting room! Here is Dr. Chris checking me.

 

 

Dr. Chris was kind enough to give me a toggle adjustment after he determined that I had an upper cervical subluxation. He explained to me that he learned this at Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I also got to meet and sit with Doc's wife, Jodie, in the reception area.

I found Marggi in Lake Lure, NC

After sitting in her office and playing on the computer (see my earlier account of this by clicking here) I found out that Marggi was on vacation at Lake Lure, NC. It's so pretty up there in the mountains that I decided to go visit her there.

Here I am sitting on the railing of the deck at the lake house where Marggi and her friends had most of their meals so they could take in the great view of the lake and mountains. I really like it here. I wonder if any Sherman alumni would like to open a practice here...

I'll stay a few days and then I'm going to head further north, way north, to Michigan. Stop back and see who I visit next!
