This past Saturday, I made my way to Atlanta for the first part of the Basic Certification in Atlas Orthogonal Technique. I will be making the trip once a month for the next three months, then probably once a month for the following eight months to receive certification in intermediate and advanced methods. The technique is very , very light force and uses an instrument to make the adjustment to Atlas. The Xray analysis is the key to the adjustment, as the vectors of force are derived using very precise mathematical calculations. Patients have reported life changing effects. Some patients travel from all over the country to see Dr. Sweat. In fact, AO has given many people a new lease on life.
Montel Williams actually did a segment on his show praising the benefits of the technique, claiming that it has made his dealing with Multiple Sclerosis much easier, alleviating most of his symptoms.
I think that AO appeals to me primarily because it is a very specific and precise technique for adjusting the Atlas vertebrae, but at the same time, does not preclude the practitioner from adjusting other areas of the spine, as many other Upper Cervical Specific techniques do. In my opinion, Atlas is the most critical vertebrae of the spine to restore alignment. Yet, I do think that other areas of the spine can become subluxated independent of Atlas, and it seems irresponsible to ignore these areas.
